About
Nick Jaussi is a German photo- and multimedia journalist, currently based in Berlin, Germany. At the moment he forms part of the Master of Art programme Photography Studies and Practice at the prestigious Folkwang University of Arts in Essen, Germany. He received a bachelor’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology in combination with Communication Studies and Journalism at Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany in 2018. Furthermore, as an exchange student, he studied anthropology at the National University of Colombia in Bogotá in 2013/14 and was part of the international Class of Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of Applied Sciences in Hannover, Germany.
Nick works for international and national magazines like Stern, Chrismon, and Semana, for newspapers like Die Zeit, and for non-governmental organizations. Apart from his work for media outlets, he spends a lot of time on autonomous projects. Often, his work is related to everyday human life, sexuality and gender, and the relation between these two. His academic background in anthropology offers Nick the possibility to understand and report on human issues in a close and intense manner, focusing on the aim to create empathy across borders. A detailed narrative offers the viewer the option of deeper discussion of the topic. In 2013/14, he worked with transwomen sex-workers in Bogotá Colombia, depicting their daily lives and the construction of a safe space in the complicated red-light district. His work was exhibited at the prestigious Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover 2014. His photographic focus lies on Spanish-speaking countries, particularly Latin America.
Nick is available for assignments in Colombia and all over Latin America in photo-journalism and photographic work. He speaks fluent Spanish, English, and German.
